| Quest Golf Club ($48-$57) 18 holes with cart |
116 Quest Dr. · (989) 422.4516 Houghton Lake, MI 48629 |
| It is hard to believe that a golf course with a 4-star Golf Digest
rating, and one that has been selected in Michigan’s top ten, as well one of the top 100 in the country for pace of
play, can be considered as one of Michigan’s best kept secrets – but it is true! This is an extremely player friendly
golf facility, with a layout and slope rating challenging enough for an interesting and enjoyable round for all levels of
players. With 5 sets of tee boxes, you can choose your own medicine here. The gold tees measure nearly 6800 yards, the middles
6059 and the fronts 5020, with the slopes varying between 136 and 117. The course itself is aesthetically beautiful, with
well-sculpted tee boxes and fairways, and wonderfully conditioned greens. Hazards of some form - water, bunkers and trees
lurk on nearly every hole, and mild elevation changes add to the environment without making the course play too diffi cult.
You should be able to score your handicap here. A spacious grass driving range and two putting greens, along with a short
game area with practice bunker are on property. |
| Snow Snake Ski & Golf ($32-$42)
18 holes with cart |
3407 E. Mannsiding Rd. · (989) 539.6583 Harrison, MI 48625 |
| Snowsnake Golf Course in Harrison boasts of a “up north golf
course- nearby” – and the layout certainly backs up this statement. Tree lined fairways and sloped, undulating
greens provide the challenge in a secluded environment with naturally rolling terrain. The hills, ravines and dense woods
create the opportunity for a great variety in design, with numerous holes playing from elevated tees and strategic doglegs
bending both right and left. The by product is a beautiful and short but challenging design, that is geared towards the “shot
maker”. The grip it and rip mentality will not come in handy here, as careful thought must be applied on nearly every
hole. Land it on the well kept fairways, which frequently are narrow, and a good score is very possible. Stray to either side
and you will be playing out of gnarly rough. Prior course knowledge is also a great advantage here, especially when applied
to placement of approaches on the medium sized putting surfaces, which are more sloped than undulating. Knowing which ones
are sloped front to back, back to front or side to side can certainly help to save some strokes. Web Site: www.snowsnake.net
